New Head of Coaching at Riviera on Vaal Country Club

Golf lessons

Natasha Swanepoel – Head of Coaching at Riviera on Vaal Country Club

Meet the newest member of the Riviera on Vaal Country Club team! Natasha Swanepoel studied sport science specializing in golf at the University of Pretoria, the first institute to combine a degree with the PGA requirements. During her 3 years of studying, part of the practical requirements was to coach under the TuksGolf name, coaching all ages. After her degree, she worked at Kempton Park Golf Club where she was involved with coaching group sessions for school kids and the Development Academy where she taught basic golf to under privileged kids. She recently started working at Riviera on Vaal ProShop, and has taken over the coaching.

Golf lessons

Anyone is welcome to come for lessons. Kids get the opportunity to learn basic golf and also develop motor learning skills. Men have the opportunity to master their golf as well as master a specific shot desired. Ladies have an opportunity to spend quality time with their partners by learning the game and being able to play a round of golf with them. “Golf is a working progress and should be taught from a step by step approach,” where she begins her focus with the 4 basic fundamentals of golf. Once these four fundamentals are mastered, you will move on the 5 laws of golf. Last but not least are the technicalities of golf, the shot principles and the list goes on. This is more specific to your individual faults and will be her focus with the more advanced players.

Lessons are available for new golfers (from primary school up to adults) as well as advanced players who would like to improve their technique. For more information about golf lessons, please contact the ProShop on 016 420 1347.

For more information contact Natasha Swanepoel, Head of Coaching at Riviera on Vaal ProShop.

Three guides for choosing your wedding venue

Choosing the best venue for your wedding is an important part of your wedding planning. This is where you will celebrate a significant milestone in your life and the first thing your guests will see on your wedding day. Make sure the wedding venue you choose answers all the points that will help you choose the best possible option to host your wedding.

Guides to choosing a wedding venue

Guides to choosing a wedding venue

Your wedding theme

First decide what kind of look you’re going for: the kind of style you want for your wedding and the colours you’re going to use and the overall theme. Once that’s decided, you can start searching for wedding venues that suit your wedding theme or style.

The size of your wedding

How big do you want your dream wedding to be? Have you always wanted a huge wedding with everyone you know present? Or do you want a more intimate affair with only your nearest and dearest attending? The size of your wedding will help you narrow down your wedding venue selection. For big weddings you will look at country club and hotel wedding venues and for a more intimate or small wedding a restaurant or even a floating restaurant would be the perfect setting.

Your wedding budget

Perhaps one point that can sober your wedding dreams in one fell swoop – the dreaded BUDGET. What kind of wedding can you really afford? Work out the numbers and see what you’re willing to spend. You can opt to splash out on your wedding venue and cut back on drinks or decorations. Discuss ideas on how you can get what you really want and how to get around any challenges. Remember to also look at the option of having your wedding in off-peak seasons. That decision alone can shave your wedding venue expense quite a lot. Explore DIY options; what can you do yourself – wedding decorations, invitations, favours etc.

RIVIERA ON VAAL: Cheers to the next 85 years

After turning 85 in August, 2012, the Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club has big expectations not only for the near future, but also for the next 85 years and counting.

The Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club has had a big year thus far, indicating that they are endeavoring to become one of Gauteng’s environmentally friendly hotels. With the Riviera on Vaal being but a speck in the milky way of the hospitality industry, they take on challenges in the same capacity as other bigger hotel groups in the country. As an independent hotel they are proud to have achieved what they have in the past almost decade and plan on achieving even more in the next few years. With the world and the tourism industry becoming more and more environmentally attentive, it is establishments like the Riviera on Vaal’s responsibility to set an example within their communities.

To thrive, hotels need to understand and embrace the needs of their guests as well. It is important to consistently inject new life and different experiences into their offers, which keeps the ideas current while still embracing present styles and techniques. The Riviera on Vaal strives to decrease environmental impact and increase social responsibility within its local community. Recruiting staff from the local community and using local suppliers are also some of Riviera on Vaal’s highest priorities. They have developed ABET (Adult Basic Educational Training) programmes, as well as student internships. Riviera on Vaal is also consistently involved with Matt’s Foundation, a local non-profit organization responsible for loving the children of the Vaal. The organization provides basic needs to numerous children’s homes, safety houses and shelters in the local community.

Furthermore, the Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club has made it their priority to become more and more involved in the protection of their environment. The first steps have already been taken, which granted them a silver classification from Heritage, a South African environmental management company.

The Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club has also created relationships with numerous local companies to increase their guests’ experiences at the resort. These companies include Tapamanzi Team Building as well as Twin Boats who will be assisting the hotel with a multitude of water sport activities. Riviera on Vaal would like to thank all companies, suppliers, guests and staff members who have supported the hotel and the country club over the past 85 years and they look forward to sharing their special experiences for special people with their loyal customers and suppliers in the years to come.

General Manager, Leonie Herselman, has been at the Riviera on Vaal for just over a year now and with her management team they have been able to recreate the original essence of the Riviera on Vaal Hotel: special experiences for special people. A feel of unity has been created amongst staff and therefore the hotel seems to have a prosperous future ahead.
