The Riviera on Vaal appoints a new GM

General Manager at the Riviera on Vaal Hotel & Country Club

Charl Campher, General Manager at the Riviera on Vaal Hotel & Country Club

A new General Manager has been appointed to manage the well known family resort on the banks of the Vaal River: Riviera on Vaal Hotel & Country Club.

Charl Campher joined the team at the Riviera on Vaal on 1 April 2013. He has been appointed as General Manager after proving his skills and expertise in the industry locally and internationally.

After studying through the Institute of Hotel and Tourism Management, associated with the Hotelfachschule Belvoir Park of Zurich, Switzerland, Campher kicked off his career locally, as well as internationally. His experience in the industry comes from working at establishments like the Mount Grace in Magaliesberg and the Metropolitan Beach Hotel in Dubai. He broadened his horizons even further by taking up positions on American Cruise Lines working in North and South America, where after he returned to South Africa. With Campher being a member of the Chain des Rottiseurs and with his 19 years experience in the hotel industry, it is only natural to be excited about welcoming him back under the Riviera on Vaal’s management.

Charl Campher is a man who values family and genuine friends – two very important values at the Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club. As child he visited the Riviera on Vaal with his family on numerous occasions, thinking that it would be wonderful to someday have the opportunity to work in such a beautiful environment. After being married to his lovely wife, Willene, (also from the Vaal Triangle) for 7 years now, his dream has finally come true. With hobbies like cooking for friends and gardening, Riviera on Vaals guests will see that the once student has now become the master.

With the hospitality industry being one of the most challenging industries to work in, he understands the importance of constantly focusing on set goals and as he rightly says: “Honesty is always the best policy.” He describes his management style as very hands on and labels himself as a perfectionist. His strictness with regards to procedures and training will form an important part of the new management system as he believes one needs to apply self discipline to ensure that the highest quality of guest satisfaction is maintained and achieved at all times.

“Teamwork is of utmost importance,” says Campher. “The Riviera on Vaal Hotel is a unique property. Day to day running of the Hotel will be monitored to access the specific goals pertaining to the property. No compromise will be made when it comes to quality and service.” With the slogan, special experiences for special people, representing the Resort, Charl Campher says he would like the Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club to be the name on everyone’s lips.

The Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club would like to welcome Charl Campher back in his new position and look forward to his input in assisting this property to grow from strength to strength.

Why a winter wedding is the perfect option

Winter weddings in the Vaal

Winter weddings in the Vaal

Would you consider a winter wedding rather than to get married in spring or summer? Is it too much to ask? I’d urge you to think again.

Not only is it more affordable to get married in winter, due to the fact that most brides want to get married in summer, but you could also use the season to your advantage by creating the most unique wedding ever. It is always funny to see how people compare different weddings they’ve been to. Something that is always mentioned during these comparisons is the similarities to previously attended weddings.

By getting married in winter, you decrease the possibility of using similar décor to that of your friends’ weddings and you give yourself the opportunity to think creatively. Not every bride is able to pull off a winter wedding that has everyone in awe. Make it a challenge. In fact, encourage your groom to come up with winter wedding ideas – you’ll be surprised with his creativity and knowledge.

Another reason for getting married in winter has to do with two lovely venues beside the Vaal River which provide scenic settings even in the colder, dryer seasons. The Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club, situated on a bend in the Vaal River, boasts elegant wedding venues with the river featuring as one of the Resort’s photographic hotspots. Maccauvlei on Vaal is the ideal autumn or winter wedding venue with its historic oak forest and original wooden interiors.

For more information on these two venues and the wedding packages they have on offer, contact the Riviera on Vaal team on 016 420 1300 or reservations@rivieraonvaal.co.za or contact Maccauvlei on Vaal on 016 420 2000 or res@maccauvleionvaal.co.za.

Auditoriums in the Free State

When thinking of auditoriums in the Free State, the only town or city that comes to mind is Bloemfontein. But, after Maccauvlei on Vaal reopened its doors in March 2013, the Free State got to add another auditorium to its list which is not only in the Free State, but also easily accessible from Johannesburg next to the Vaal River.

Maccauvlei on Vaal Country Lodge and Conferencing Venue, on the border of the Free State and Gauteng, has an auditorium large enough to accommodate at least 120 delegates. Whether it is for a conference or training, companies can now easily accommodate their employees at the same venue at an affordable price.

In addition to that, companies can also do team buildings, play golf and take part in snooker tournaments at Maccauvlei on Vaal.

For more information on Maccauvlei on Vaal’s auditorium or other conference and training facilities, contact 016 420 2000 or res@maccauvleionvaal.co.za.

What to look for in wedding photography

Weddings at Maccauvlei on Vaal

Weddings at Maccauvlei on Vaal

The Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club, as well as Maccauvlei on Vaal boasts the perfect wedding photography opportunities. Therefore it is important to know what to look for in wedding photography to be able to capture every possible perfect moment on your special day.

The most important part of wedding photography is the photographer. As easy as it might seem, not one photographer has the same style as the next. It is the wedding couple’s responsibility to decide what they want from the photographer in terms of the end product, the style of photography and the amount of coverage. They also need to decide on the personality they want to portray from their wedding and they need to be sure to book a reliable photographer with a trustworthy track record.

Choosing a good wedding photographer would make things a lot easier in terms of which photographs to include. A professional photographer who has been in the industry for a while will be able to recommend key elements to include in your photos, making it possible to capture your most precious memories and the most important moments forever.

The wedding couple will need to decide on a photographer who will be able to understand what they want without too much direction. The perfect photographer for your wedding day would be the one who will be able to capture the story of the day and fit in some artistic portraits without interrupting special moments.

Should you need assistance in selecting your wedding photographer while planning your special day at the Riviera on Vaal Hotel or at Maccauvlei on Vaal, feel free to contact one of the venues who will be able to recommend a few local professional wedding photographers. Contact the Riviera on Vaal Hotel and Country Club on 016 420 1300 or reservations@rivieraonvaal.co.za or Maccauvlei on Vaal on 016 420 2000 or res@maccauvleionvaal.co.za.
