It’s scary to think that Christmas is around the corner once again! But for kids this means family, presents and crafts!
Here are some great DIY Christmas ideas for kids – the ideal way to keep them busy over weekends and during the long summer holiday.
Make your own tree ornaments:
Collect all the old buttons lying around at home and create your own tree ornaments from that. Glue them together and tie a pretty ribbon around them to hang it on your Christmas tree this year.
Make your own rustic Christmas tree:
Pick up some branches from your garden. Remember to use different shapes and sizes. Fill a vase (preferably glass) halfway with pebbles or stones to help anchor your Christmas tree. If you want to paint some of the branches, remember to sand them first to remove all dirt and loose bark. Use a white undercoat if you are using bright colours. You don’t have to paint all of the branches – be creative and dip some of the branch tips in glue and glitter or even acrylic paint for a modern look. Plant the branches in the vase and hang a few Christmas decorations to finish off your rustic Christmas tree.
Decorate your own Christmas wish can:
Christmas gifts are always something to look forward to. Decorate your own Christmas wish can and whenever you think of something you would like to have for Christmas, write it on a piece of paper and put it in the can. That way Father Christmas will know exactly what to give to you on Christmas evening.
Make a Christmas gift for your teacher:
Need some brownie points? Bake a few brownies and fill a mason jar with it. Tie a red or green ribbon around it with a note that reads: Merry Christmas! Toffee apples are also a good idea for Christmas gifts.
DIY gift wrap:
With gift wrap being so expensive during Christmas time, why not make your own? This way the gifts you hand out have an extra personal touch. Take blank sheets of wrapping paper (brown, white, green, red, silver or gold) and paint your own creative shapes and pictures onto it. Make thumbprints, draw Christmas trees, make hand and foot prints and make pictures from it. Think out of the box and have fun with paint and paper!
